Integrative Psychotherapy

Hello! I’m Alan, I’m a licensed creative arts therapist and board-certified music therapist with 20 years of clinical experience in outpatient, inpatient, and community-based mental health settings throughout New York City. I specialize in working with adolescents and adults who are trying to find a better way of approaching life's challenges, gaining insight into personal and inter-personal patterns and behaviors, developing healthy coping strategies to manage stress, anxiety, and depression, all the while breaking down barriers to creating a more meaningful and fulfilling life. I approach therapy from humanistic, existential, and client-centered perspectives using an integration of evidence-based approaches, including psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapies, music psychotherapy, sound therapy, meditation, and breath & body awareness.

  • How much will therapy cost? Sessions are $200. I accept payment by Venmo or Zelle.

Do you accept insurance? I do not accept insurance, although most insurance plans offer out-of-network coverage and will reimburse you at full, or a portion of the cost of therapy. Be sure to check your coverage carefully. Some good questions to ask when you speak with your insurance company are:

-Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?

-Do I have deductible? How much is it and how much as been met?

-What percentage of therapy fee is covered?

-How many sessions are covered per year?

What is the difference between psychotherapy & life-coaching? Psychotherapy focuses on addressing your mental health, exploring deep-rooted emotional issues, facilitating healing, and developing a better understanding of oneself. On the other hand, coaching is a forward-focused, goal oriented approach that empowers you to create positive changes in your life. It concentrates on setting and achieving specific goals, enhancing personal and professional development, and building skills for a more fulfilling future.

Unlike psychotherapy, there's no obligatory licensing to present oneself as a life coach. Despite this, numerous licensed experts do provide coaching services. It's crucial to exercise caution regarding the training and expertise of any practitioner you contemplate collaborating with.

I adeptly employ both methodologies based on individual requirements, ensuring a well-rounded and tailored approach for my clients.

  • Oreka Sound Bath is a 60-minute immersive and restorative experience using sound vibrations to invite therapeutic effects to the mind, body, and spirit. By activating and engaging the parasympathetic nervous system for a sustained period of time, participants enter a profoundly relaxing and meditative state. Some benefits may include: improved mood, stress reduction, decreased anxiety, calmness, clarity, creative inspiration, spiritual development, lower blood pressure, better sleep, pain management, and tinnitus relief.

Participants are provided soft mats and blankets and are encouraged to lie back and make themselves comfortable. Those who have difficulty lying on a mat are invited to sit comfortably and upright in chairs.

The typical arc of an Oreka Sound Bath begins with guided breathing exercises, while tuning into our auditory senses and sonic environment. This is followed by a gradual, continuous and progressive vibrational sequences of tonal, harmonic, and dynamic shifts using crystal singing bowls, and various types of instruments.

As the sound bath comes to a resolution, participants are guided back to their breath, reconnecting with their bodies and physical awareness.

At the conclusion of an Oreka Sound Bath, participants are supported as they integrate and process their experience.
